Henry VIII
Résumé
King Henry VIII is married to Katherine of Aragon, an upright and virtuous wife. Henry, a proud and wilful monarch, wishes to defy Rome’s ban on divorce to marry the beguiling Anne Boleyn. Despite attempts to sway the Pope by Cardinal Wolsey, England’s powerful Lord Chancellor and accomplished politician, the Catholic Church remains implacable, signalling the beginning of the Church of England. Henry divorces Katherine and takes Anne as his wife. England’s new queen gives birth to a girl who would become England’s most famous monarch, Elizabeth I.
